It might be irksome for Amitabh Bachchan (71), the veteran and still the megastar of Indian film industry, who hates the word: Bollywood spread by the world, to know the fact that the way he dressed at Cannes festival opening this year was critized by many, including some of his huge fans. The striped blue and white jacket was not supposed to be worn there so that Leonardo DiCaprio and other Hollywood guys look more dominant and lavish with their "driver." standing with them--that's totally different from what he wore the previous day in the red carpet.
People may come up with the question: is it you there to represent India with no sense of fashion? and further question next, you're the one used to be the angry young man, the one-man industry, number one in India for decades, but would do something for free for a short-time appearance in Hollywood flick? Jacky Chan might be better; he used his heyday to win Hollywood's attention once, but Amitabh Bachchan seemed to skip the moment, loved his country too much and sticked to the stereotype of the everlasting genre up to now. I was one of his fans when I was a teenager, and wished that he would appear to co-star with Hollywood famous heros of his time, like Arnold Scwharzenegger, Sylvester Stallone or Jacky Chan. But why that never happened? Until then I got bored with Indian movies and the Internet era came and found him there with a white beard. Time flies so fast! Now with the jacket that betrays him and Cannes film festival which attracts the world's attention, Amitabh wishes to star in a Hollywood movie. Is it better late than never?
Seemingly, Leonardo DiCaprio, like Shakhrukh Khan to whom he would like to co-star with, might know that he's already old, might be tired of acting, but never wants to give up. Amitabh seems like, as in most of his movies--and this is one of the reasons why fans fall in love with him--to show his humanly charismatic affection that he supports the young which actually have already been famous with their own effort--no big deal!
Amitabh Bachchan, Cannes and the jacket in other words, is one of the episode of ambisious entertainmet in the eye of critics.
